Swatches are approximate. Screens vary, and metallic, pearl and color-flip films change with the light — no flat swatch can represent them. Ask us about a physical sample if color accuracy matters to your project.

Paint protection film
A polyurethane film designed to protect the paint. Usually clear — but 3M’s Protection Wrap Film is PPF in color, which does both jobs at once.

3M™ Protection Wrap Film Color Series (PWF)
Paint protection film that happens to come in colors. PWF is PPF — a polyurethane protective film — rather than a vinyl wrap, which is why it costs what it does and behaves the way it does.
- A polyurethane paint protection film — the same class of material as clear PPF, in color
- Protects against rock chips, scratches and stains while changing the color
- 7.5–9 mil thick depending on color; 3M states at least 70% thicker than typical vinyl films
- Self-healing polymer — 3M states minor scratches disappear when heat is applied

Not for a bare Cybertruck.
3M lists Protection Wrap Film for painted surfaces, and states it is not recommended for, and not warranted on, stainless steel. A Cybertruck’s bare panels are stainless. We’ll wrap a Cybertruck in color-change vinyl, but we won’t put PWF on bare stainless and tell you it’s covered — because 3M says it isn’t.
Twice the film.
This is the difference you can actually measure, and it explains most of the rest.

3M states PWF is at least 70% thicker than typical vinyl films. That thickness is what absorbs a stone chip instead of tearing — and it is also why PWF is harder to install, needs more heat to conform, and costs what it costs.
Thicker is not automatically better. On a car that will never see a highway, a color-change vinyl does the visual job for less. Thickness matters when you want protection, not just color.
It comes off — with heat, and with a professional.
3M publishes a removal procedure for Protection Wrap Film: a heat gun or steamer, peeled at a 30–60° angle, and they recommend hiring a professional to do it. That is not a promise about your paint. As with any film, what the surface looks like afterwards depends on the paint underneath and the conditions at removal.
The paint underneath still shows.
3M is explicit that paint defects — scratches, dents, pitting, fisheyes, orange peel — may show through Protection Wrap Film, especially in flat and gloss colors, and that their warranty applies to vehicles whose paint is soundly bonded. We’ll tell you honestly at intake whether your paint is a good candidate.
Every figure above is 3M’s published specification for their film, not a promise from SpaceShip Wraps. The 10-year warranty is 3M’s consumer warranty on their material, with their terms and their exclusions — we install the film, we don’t underwrite it.
This is priced like paint protection film because it is paint protection film. The material on a full vehicle runs into the thousands before anyone touches the car — that, not extra labor, is most of the gap to a color-change vinyl wrap.
Avery Dennison® Conform Chrome
A conformable chrome vinyl film in the Avery Dennison SF100 range — black, silver, red, blue, gold and rose gold. It changes how the car looks; it is not a protective film.
Chrome is the least forgiving vinyl there is. It shows whatever is underneath it, it marks easily, and it punishes over-stretching more than any standard color-change film. The price reflects the installation time and the risk far more than the material cost.
We’ll talk you out of it if it’s wrong for the car.
We will talk you out of chrome on a vehicle whose paint is not right for it. On the wrong surface it is an expensive way to highlight every flaw.
Durability, care requirements and any warranty are Avery Dennison’s to state for their material. Ask us and we will point you at their published documentation rather than paraphrase it.

What to know before you book.
Ten things from 3M’s own documentation that are much better to hear now than afterwards. 3M’s installation FAQ tells wrap shops to set these expectations with customers before installing — so here they are.
The paint underneath decides a lot.
Film goes over what is already there. 3M states that rust, bubbling, scratches, dents and similar damage will be visible through the film, and can damage the film or cause it to fail early. Their warranty applies to vehicles whose paint is soundly bonded to the substrate. We look at this at intake and tell you honestly what we see.
3M PWF installation FAQGloss and flat colors show more, not less.
Defects like pitting, fisheyes and orange peel can telegraph through — 3M singles out flat and gloss colors as the ones that show it most, and recommends paint correction before installing over heavy orange peel. A satin or textured film is more forgiving of an imperfect panel.

A wrap comes off — but 3M’s warranty for Series 2080 expressly excludes paint pull during film removal. If the paint underneath is aftermarket, poorly bonded or previously repaired, removal carries real risk. This matters most on a car that has been repainted.
3M 2080 warranty cardFilm varies slightly from roll to roll.
Both manufacturers note colors can vary between production lots, and recommend using a single lot for an entire vehicle. It is a reason not to wrap half a car now and half in six months, and a reason a repair panel years later may not match perfectly.

Textured, metallic, pearl and color-flip films can look different depending on which way the film runs. 3M instructs installers not to alternate orientation panel to panel. It is invisible when done right and obvious when it is not.

This one surprises people. 3M excludes coatings and other aftermarket additions from the MCS™ warranty on Series 2080 — they do not warrant coated 2080. On Protection Wrap Film, 3M explicitly permits their own ceramic coating and boost spray. So whether you can ceramic your wrap depends on which film you chose.

3M’s MCS™ warranty on Series 2080 runs up to 8 years on vertical surfaces and 3 on horizontal, varying by zone — the roof and hood are always the shorter number. It covers the original purchaser, is not transferable, is valid in the US and Canada, and excludes damage from accident, misuse, ordinary wear and road debris.
3M 2080 warranty cardHow you wash it matters.
3M specifies a wet, non-abrasive cleaner without solvents, at a neutral pH. No waxes containing dyes, no abrasive polishes, no rubbing compounds — those will damage the film surface. The full care guide is on our product literature page.
3M PWF product bulletinFilm on glass carries a risk 3M disclaims.
Applying film to glass can cause the glass to break through uneven heat absorption in sun, and 3M states plainly that they are not liable for glass breakage. We factor this into what we will and won’t wrap.

3M specifies installation between 60–90°F for Series 2080, and recommends 65–75°F for PWF. It is why an at-home installation needs a garage that holds temperature, and why we won’t install into conditions that will cost you the result.
